We have been printing for over 26 years and print on Silver-Halide (RA4) Print. IE; processed through Developer, Bleach & Fixer/Stabilizer. HOW DO WE PRINT PHOTOS SO CHEAPLY ? We have been in business printing photos since 1988. We are a small business located in Port Macquarie on the Mid North Coast of NSW. Since selling our school photography business we have kept the wholesale prices from our suppliers, so we simply have passed these on. We are also the National suppliers of Agfa DLab2 Spare Parts , so we have a supply of spare printer parts available, putting us at an advantage over other wet-labs in our category. Also quite a lot of labs cannot print 18″x12″ size because they might print from a Fuji Frontier (or similar) which only prints to 10″x15″. Labs who print an 18″x12″ sized print on an Inkjet are not price competitive because inkjet consumables are dearer. We feel we are perfectly placed in the market to offer these ridiculous prices on photo printing. WHAT TYPE OF PAPER & FINISH DO YOU OFFER ? We print on Real Photographic Paper using RA-4 processing. Our main paper is Kodak Professional Premier Digital Paper in a Lustre finish. This is a professional grade paper, it is a finish between Matte and Gloss, it has a medium sheen to it and is more resistant to fingerprints. The Photographic paper we use gives outstanding sharpness, true colour reproduction, pure whites & neutral tone gradation. It is also extremely resistant to scratches, pressure marks and static & has excellent image stability. We are known throughout the Camera Clubs as we are only a handful of labs who calibrate to a neutral grey, so our Black & White prints are among the best B&W prints (through colour chemistry) in the country. DO YOU PRINT ON GLOSS PAPER ? No. See above for the type we have. DO YOU PRINT ON METALLIC PAPER ? No. We suggest Nulab if you want stunning metallic prints. CAN I USE NORMAL POSTAGE INSTEAD OF EXPRESS OR COURIER ? Normal post is sometimes more expensive than the couriers. We use Express Post, Startrack, TNT & Fastway and the reason we use one of these is because each of them offer a tracking # so we can see where your parcel is at any stage of the process. DO YOU HAVE DISCOUNTED RATES FOR LARGER ORDERS ? Have you seen somewhere cheaper ?? We haven’t ! DO YOU PRINT LARGER THAN 18″x12″ ? We do offer a service where we print larger than this, but you will have to be a regular client so we can work out the best way to get them freighted to you at a competitive price. If its a once off, you are much better off trying somewhere local to you so you don’t have to worry about freight damage. But as an example the price for inkjet 34″x24″ is $25 each (Minimum 4 quantity – This includes courier/postage). We do not sell singles. If you would like 30″x20″ it will have a 4″ border around the print as we will print all files to 34″x24″ GAMUT / COLOUR SPACE The range of colours that a silver-halide digital laser printer can produce is awesome, but is still short on what an Inkjet print can produce. Our process is similar to Harvey Norman, Big W. They use Fuji Chrystal Archive Paper , we use a Professional Grade Kodak Paper. The gamut is very good in our process. Ensure that the colour space is saved in RGB, either Adobe1998 or sRGB. Before printing we convert the files with our printing profile ensuring awesome quality. RATIOS – ASPECT RATIO Aspect ratio is the relationship of the width of an image to its height, of its horizontal to vertical dimensions. Some digital cameras let you select an aspect ratio that matches standard print sizes, such as 6″x4″ (3:2 ratio). Some digital cameras default to different ratios, the most common other than 3:2 is 4:3. For files not shot in a 3:2 ratio, care must be taken to get the desired aspect ratio with editing software as any photos will need to be in the same ratio as the print selected or WHITE EDGES WILL APPEAR ON YOUR FINISHED PRINTS. This also can happen if you have cropped your file in some way. If selecting a border on your print and you don’t have the correct ratio, those prints will have an odd sized border on some sides. * If you wish to print say an 14″x11″, you would need to place the 14:11 ratio print on an 18:12 (ie:3:2) ratio canvas. There is some good information on ensuring that your photographic prints are in the right ratio I am really unhappy because I saved my files at 14″x11″ and they all came out larger with white edges on the sides! We print your files to ‘fit’ on whatever sized paper you choose. You chose 18″x12″ so they will ‘fit’ on the paper as follows. The 11″ side will go to 12″ and the 14″ side will go to 15.273″ , so you will have in front of you 15.273″x12″ prints. If you want 14″x11″ enlargements you will need to make them 14×11 on an 18×12 canvas (Image>Canvas Size in Photoshop), then you simply print them as 18″x12″ and you will have the 14×11 inside the border you created in Photoshop. I RECEIVED A TRACKING NUMBER BUT THE COURIER WEBSITE SAYS ITS NOT WHERE IT SHOULD BE Sometimes the couriers lose parcels or are delayed. Please take note on the couriers website how long until it should arrive and then email us at [email protected] FILE SIZES Send your files saved in JPEG Format ONLY. Feel free to compress your files at medium quality in Photoshop. Quality 8 is fine. For people shooting in jpeg you do not need to resize any of your files if you do not wish to. Check your File Manager to ensure your JPEGs are compressed to under 10MB. You will not see any pixel degradation in your print until your file reaches below 200 dpi at the size print you need. You can achieve beautiful looking 18″x12″ enlargements from files of approximately 1-2MB in size. For the most efficient workflow, we suggest that your files be around 3-5MB each. (although we will take up to a 10MB file) However errors might occur with your Internet Provider in transmission due to sending too many large files in one hit. If you have heaps of files, feel free to send your order through in small lots of say 50-100 – or feel free to send a disk. We will refund postage on multiple orders. Hello, I’m new to printing photos. I am wishing to have photos printed at 12×18 inches with a white border. I use Lightroom to size and export my photos. My camera is a Nikon D700. Please advise the length I should export my photos as to upload to your website. Thank you Sue. Hi Sue, You can either choose a certain MB or you can export them at 12″x18″ @ 300ppi, either is fine. WHAT PIXELS SHOULD I EXPORT OUT OF MY SCRAPBOOKING PROGRAM? If you export at 3600pixels x 3600pixels, and you can use that size for both 8″x8″ & 12″x12″ prints WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM FILE SIZE YOUR LAB WILL TAKE ? The largest file we can print is 18″x12″ (7200pixels x 4800pixels) @ 400ppi = 98.9MB If you save this at the ‘highest quality’ .. that’s it ! I WANT TO SAVE MY FILES AS LARGE AS I CAN BUT I AM ON A SLOW INTERNET CONNECTION. If you want to save your files this way you can and post us a CD/DVD. Please ensure that the files are not over 98.9MB opened. BORDERS We recommend a 4mm white border if your prints are to be framed or if you are not sure about the ratio. The 4mm border doesn’t bleed but sometimes you might notice a slight skew on the white edge (less than .5mm) , the reason for this is that the paper has to go through a lot of guides and it needs a bit of ‘give’ so that it travels smoothly through the machine. Hence the reason bleeding happens. Hi, I am considering order some prints, but have the following question: For photos with a 4 mm border, is the 4 mm border part of the specified dimensions, eg the overall print will still be, say, 9″ x 6″; or will 4 mm be added to the dimensions on each side, eg the overall print will be, say, 9″ + 8 mm by 6″ + 8 mm. Many thanks Chris Hi Chris, Good question. The print will stay the same size: therefore the image will be slightly smaller if a border is chosen BLEEDING Please note: The D-Lab will crop 2% from the outer edge of the image through ‘bleeding’. If you do not wish to lose any of the image, please specify ‘Borders’ on your prints and this will print a 4mm white (or another colour if you wish) border. The main problem that is incurred is when you have text near the edges or need something close to the edge of the photo. PAYMENT OF ACCOUNTS We charge all orders to your credit card manually.
